Thigh Lift
Thigh lift is surgery that removes excess skin and fat from your thighs. The goal of the procedure is to improve the appearance of your thighs by removing the dimpled look produced by cellulite. A thigh lift is an affordable medical solution when you come to Hospital Punta Pacifica, Affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine International.
Prior to Surgery
Any necessary precautions prior to surgery will be outlined for you in the treatment plan. If you require pre-op therapy, you will receive the proper instructions. If you are a smoker, you may be asked to stop for a time prior to your surgery. You might also be asked to refrain from using vitamin E (in large does), aspirin or anti-inflammatory medicines since they can lead to increased bleeding during surgery.
The Procedure
A thigh lift involves resection of redundant thigh tissue. Redundant thigh tissue may extend to involve the buttocks and back of the thigh. Removal of excessive skin and fatty tissue of the inner thigh, a thigh lift, uses incisions that parallel the groin crease. The thigh lift is usually performed on the inner surface of the thighs but can include the outer thigh area and buttock if indicated.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis unless otherwise advised by the surgeon. Wide variations in the design of the incisions to meet clothing or personal desires are possible. Lifting the inner thighs requires only short incisions extending from the anterior part of the thigh/groin crease around to the buttock crease. Lateral or anterior thigh lifts can be performed as separate procedures if desired. The doctor will show you what specific procedures are available to solve your particular problem.
After Your Surgery
The patient is placed in a compression garment at the end of surgery to reduce swelling and assist in the natural shrinking and tightening of the skin. With smaller thigh lifts, initial discomfort is usually easily controlled with prescription pain medication. With larger thigh lifts, one or two nights care in a skilled nursing facility or hospital are usually required. This allows for pain injections, intravenous catheters, etc. Bruising and swelling usually subside within a month, strenuous activities are usually possible in 6 weeks and almost all symptoms are gone in 4-6 months.
Risks
Risks are similar to those for abdominoplasty and include seroma, infection, blood accumulation under the skin, also called hematoma, wound opening and asymmetry. Failure to meet the goals of the operation is also a risk, and partial revisions for further tightening should be accepted ahead of time since they could be necessary. Revisions would not usually be as extensive a procedure as the initial procedure.
While there is always an element of risk, having an American-trained surgeon, a professional staff and a world-class hospital make your Panama brow lift at Hospital Punta Pacifica, Affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine International, a safe and rewarding procedure.
