Post Bariatric Surgery
Massive post-surgical weight can leave behind excess folds of skin and fat, in some ways making the patient actually look worse, not better. For these patients, the next step is a series of operations known as body contouring, where surgeons remove this excess tissue and sculpt and restore the body to a more normal, aesthetically pleasing look.

Prior to Surgery
Any necessary precautions prior to surgery will be outlined for you in the treatment plan. If you require pre-op therapy, you will receive the proper instructions. If you are a smoker, you may be asked to stop for a time prior to your surgery. You might also be asked to refrain from using vitamin E (in large does), aspirin or anti-inflammatory medicines since they can lead to increased bleeding during surgery.

The Procedure
There are many procedures that can fall under the heading of post bariatric surgery: breast lifts and augmentation, thigh lifts, buttock lifts, face lifts, tummy tucks and a variety of others. The list is extensive because after someone has been severely overweight, their skin loses its elasticity causing it to droop or sag. These procedures remove the excess skin, giving the patient a more toned, smooth appearance.

After Your Surgery
Depending on the number of surgeries involved, your surgeon will construct a post-operative recovery plan to help you look your very best. This could include topical creams to nourish the skin and fitness training to properly build supporting muscles.

Risks
The risks for post bariatric surgery are the same as those of the individual surgeries. Bleeding, scarring, blood clots, difficulties healing and asymmetry are just a few. You should discuss your treatment plan and the related risks with your surgeon prior to scheduling any procedures.

While there is always an element of risk, having an American-trained surgeon, a professional staff and a world-class hospital make your Panama brow lift at Hospital Punta Pacifica, Affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine International, a safe and rewarding procedure.
